Made from CO2, how does that work?
Our research partners, Carbon Upycling Technologies, found a way to capture carbon emissions and infuse them into solid materials. We use their technology to substitute captured CO2 for a portion of the cement in our specialty concrete blend. Our production process demonstrates how the concrete, one of the biggest contributors to climate change, can be made more sustainable.
Why is making products from captured CO2 important?
By making Vessels with captured CO2 we reduce the amount of carbon-intensive cement needed in concrete while also creating a new way for carbon emissions to be captured and utilized, rather than released into the atmosphere. If carbon capture technology is widely adopted by the construction industry it could reduce global carbon emissions by up to 2%.
How does my purchase support climate innovation?
The carbon capture technology we’re supporting is critical to counteract climate change, but as an early technology, it’s expensive, so it doesn’t have mass adoption yet. Your purchase enables us to be an early customer of carbon removal technologies to help climate innovators gain adoption and lower costs. The widespread usage of this innovative solution would help to significantly reduce concrete's impact on the planet.
Where do you source the carbon emissions from?
The CO2 contained in Vessels is captured from fossil fuel power plants in North America. This stuff would be heating up the atmosphere but we prefer to use it to make beautiful Vessels for your home.
Why are Vessels made with concrete if it’s bad for the environment?
Our concrete blend is as sustainable as it gets. By using captured CO2 in our mixture, we reduce the amount of carbon-intensive cement needed while upcycling carbon emissions that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. We commit to offsetting any remaining impact caused by our products.
Concrete is not going away anytime soon. Our goal is to help the construction industry, one of the biggest contributors to climate change, be more sustainable through the adoption of innovative climate technologies. Our products serve as symbols, and literal examples, of how concrete could be made more sustainable.
Where are Vessels made?
Vessels are individually handmade to order in Los Angeles, California.
How are your products carbon-negative?
Our concrete blend is designed to have a net-negative carbon impact. We also invest in innovative carbon-removal projects to offset any carbon emissions caused by our operations. Learn more about our carbon removal investments.
